To Form Young Souls

“Walk as children of the light”
(Ephesians 5:8)

Parents, leaders, and educators, we have a mission, a duty to lead children's souls toward the Light which will be their guide and their happiness. In order to illuminate the way that lies before each one of us, once a week we invite you to discover some of the words of certain wisemen and witnesses, measuring their worth by the words of St. Thomas Aquinas: “Do not consider the one who speaks, but whatever good you hear from him, confide it to your memory.” (from The Sixteen Ways to Acquire the Treasure of Knowledge by St. Thomas). Happy reading!

“The goal of teaching is not to make the children retain as many things as possible but to teach them how to think.”

Henri CHARLIER (1883 – 1975)
Painter, sculptor, author of essays on art and music

“In former times, our teachers mainly taught a classical curriculum; their first priority was to educate the youth rather than to clutter their minds with all sorts of cumbersome and useless knowledge. Thanks to them, the young men and women who graduated from public or private schools were aware of the essential problems of life; they not only had acquired a broad vision, but also a taste for beauty which had been awakened in them by reading literary works of the utmost human and noble quality. School programs were made in such a way that they shaped men who were truly free and not beings unable to reflect profoundly, and who only know how to rattle off snobbish formulas or simplistic slogans like nowadays.”

Chanoine Aristide CORMIER (20th century)
Priest, professor of the seminary of Tours
