The greatest itinerant preacher of the 15th century

“Walk as children of the light”
(Ephesians 5:8)

Parents, leaders, and educators, we have a mission, a duty to lead children's souls toward the Light which will be their guide and their happiness. In order to illuminate the way that lies before each one of us, once a week we invite you to discover some of the words of certain wisemen and witnesses, measuring their worth by the words of St. Thomas Aquinas: “Do not consider the one who speaks, but whatever good you hear from him, confide it to your memory.” (from The Sixteen Ways to Acquire the Treasure of Knowledge by St. Thomas). Happy reading!

Don’t you know that the Church is the light of the world, and that nations must “walk in the light,” the light of understanding, and of Doctrine, the light of example and the light of Grace?

Saint Vincent Ferrier (1350-1419)
Dominican

“With fresh hearts and souls we hurry to the cathedral of imposing granite to kneel and hear Mass on the tomb of the greatest itinerant preacher of the 15th century: the incredible Vincent Ferrier. The troupe gathers around their Dominican “big brother” , who spent his last strength on the roads of Brittany. He looks quite grave up there in his 17th century Greek niche! But usually he is described as a strapping young religious, his hair bleached by the sun, tunic hitched up, striding across the gorse and bracken-covered moors, singing pilgrimage and mission songs and hymns in his superhuman voice.”

Father Paul Doncœur (1880-1961)
Jesuit, military chaplain during the World War I, and Boy Scout founder and leader
