Something indescribable

“Walk as children of the light”
(Ephesians 5:8)

Parents, leaders, and educators, we have a mission, a duty to lead children's souls toward the Light which will be their guide and their happiness. In order to illuminate the way that lies before each one of us, once a week we invite you to discover some of the words of certain wisemen and witnesses, measuring their worth by the words of St. Thomas Aquinas: “Do not consider the one who speaks, but whatever good you hear from him, confide it to your memory.” (from The Sixteen Ways to Acquire the Treasure of Knowledge by St. Thomas). Happy reading!

Forming true men means forming them in the image of Christ. However, to educate true men, the master himself must be a true man. The more he himself is conformed to Christ, the better he will be able to make his students imitators of Christ.

Edith Stein (1891-1942)
Carmelite

“Edith went completely unnoticed among us, despite her reputation of having an exceptional mind. She even seemed rather old-fashioned to us. Always seated in the front row, a small, insignificant figure, seemingly absorbed in the intensity of her thoughts, she always wore her dark, smooth hair, held back by a headband and fastened at the nape of her neck in a thick bun. She was very pale, almost sickly pale, and her large black eyes, with their intense gaze, became stern, almost distant, to ward off any intrusive curiosity. However, as soon as you approached her personally, an indescribable gentleness lit up her eyes, and a charming smile animated her face whose features retained some of the candour and shyness of youth. You wouldn’t call her beautiful, or even pretty, nor could you say that she possessed that feminine charm which is capable of capturing hearts, but there was something ineffable and incomparable about her high forehead so full of wisdom, and her childlike features which were marvelously expressive: a peaceful radiance one never tired of contemplating.”
