The Soul Shaped by Melody

“Walk as children of the light”
(Ephesians 5:8)

Parents, leaders, and educators, we have a mission, a duty to lead children's souls toward the Light which will be their guide and their happiness. In order to illuminate the way that lies before each one of us, once a week we invite you to discover some of the words of certain wisemen and witnesses, measuring their worth by the words of St. Thomas Aquinas: “Do not consider the one who speaks, but whatever good you hear from him, confide it to your memory.” (from The Sixteen Ways to Acquire the Treasure of Knowledge by St. Thomas). Happy reading!

“The rounded melodies of Gregorian chant invite the soul to take on their shape.”

Dom Joseph GAJARD (1885-1972)
Benedictine monk, choir master of Solesmes from 1914-1972

“In the midst of the upheavals and ruins which surround us, in this atmosphere of terrible incertitude in which we live, what we need above all is to rediscover the love of calm, silence, and peace, and Gregorian chant is marvelously apt to reawaken this love. By its supernatural inspiration and the sweet, amiable perfume of holiness unforgettable to those who have come into close contact with it, Gregorian chant excels in capturing souls and introducing them into the blessed domain where God awaits them. In all respects, Gregorian chant is a sovereignly efficacious means of moral and supernatural formation. (October 8,1947)”
