An admiral of St. Peter’s fleet

“Walk as children of the light”
(Ephesians 5:8)

Parents, leaders, and educators, we have a mission, a duty to lead children's souls toward the Light which will be their guide and their happiness. In order to illuminate the way that lies before each one of us, once a week we invite you to discover some of the words of certain wisemen and witnesses, measuring their worth by the words of St. Thomas Aquinas: “Do not consider the one who speaks, but whatever good you hear from him, confide it to your memory.” (from The Sixteen Ways to Acquire the Treasure of Knowledge by St. Thomas). Happy reading!

We must surrender ourselves to God with the trust of a little child. May our trust be always joyful and full of simplicity… We must reflect the Light of God in our souls, for it is the True Light, and this mirror must be clean and crystal clear.

Cardinal Merry del Val (1865-1930)
Secretary of State under Pope Pius X

“Down the corridor came a tall prelate: Raphael Cardinal Merry del Val… At sixty-five, Merry del Val was straight and spare as a sword of Toledo. On his noble head was the scarlet biretta, and he wore a large cape like an admiral of St. Peter’s fleet… With his royal comportment, an attractiveness which shone from his person, and his lovable humor, Cardinal Merry del Val possessed, in an enviable quantity, every gift which can be required of a Prince of the Church.”

Henry Morton Robinson (1898-1961)
Novelist
