Citadels in the Sea

“Walk as children of the light”
(Ephesians 5:8)

Parents, leaders, and educators, we have a mission, a duty to lead children's souls toward the Light which will be their guide and their happiness. In order to illuminate the way that lies before each one of us, once a week we invite you to discover some of the words of certain wisemen and witnesses, measuring their worth by the words of St. Thomas Aquinas: “Do not consider the one who speaks, but whatever good you hear from him, confide it to your memory.” (from The Sixteen Ways to Acquire the Treasure of Knowledge by St. Thomas). Happy reading!

“I will walk before the legion, unarmed, covered only with the sign of the cross, and first, without the least fear, I will plunge into the midst of the enemy!
Lord, if I am still needed by my people, I do not refuse the work. Non recuso laborem.” Non recuso laborem. »

Saint MARTIN (around 316-397)
Bishop of Tours, Apostle of Gaul

“Each Christian is a soldier today, a soldier of Christ.
There is no such thing as a passive Christian.
Our fathers went on crusades even as far as the land of the infidels,
But in our times, we are asked by God to fight in our homeland.
Our fidelities are citadels.
All our homes are fortresses in danger of the sea.
The holy war is everywhere; it comes today battering against our thresholds.
Thus we are islands beaten by an unrelenting storm and our homes are all citadels in the sea…
Our fathers needed to take the crusaders’ cross upon themselves,
But God Himself has crossed us for an unending crusade right here.
The least among us is a soldier; the least among us is truly a crusader.”
