Save France, O God of might!

“Walk as children of the light”
(Ephesians 5:8)

Parents, leaders, and educators, we have a mission, a duty to lead children's souls toward the Light which will be their guide and their happiness. In order to illuminate the way that lies before each one of us, once a week we invite you to discover some of the words of certain wisemen and witnesses, measuring their worth by the words of St. Thomas Aquinas: “Do not consider the one who speaks, but whatever good you hear from him, confide it to your memory.” (from The Sixteen Ways to Acquire the Treasure of Knowledge by St. Thomas). Happy reading!

I love France; my prayer each morning is this: that France never be deprived of her sceptre as Eldest Daughter of the Church.

Saint Pius X (1835-1914)
Giuseppe Sarto, pope from 1903 to 1914

“In your turn, you will say to your compatriots that, if they love France, they must love God, must love the Faith, love the Church, who is their deeply tender mother, as she was for your fathers. You will say that they must consider as their treasure the testimony given by Saint Remi, by Charlemagne and by Saint Louis, a testimony that we can summarize in the oft-repeated words of the heroine of Orleans: Long like Christ, King of France! It is only in this respect that France can be considered great among the nations, only under this cry will God protect her and make her free and glorious. It is no dream then, but a reality; I haven’t only hope, but certainty of her full victory. What seems impossible to men is possible to God. And I am confirmed in this certainty by the protection of the martyrs who gave their blood for the Faith, as well as the intercession of Joan of Arc who, living in the hearts of the French, continually repeats this prayer in Heaven: “Save France, O God of might!”
