The soul of a people

“Walk as children of the light”
(Ephesians 5:8)

Parents, leaders, and educators, we have a mission, a duty to lead children's souls toward the Light which will be their guide and their happiness. In order to illuminate the way that lies before each one of us, once a week we invite you to discover some of the words of certain wisemen and witnesses, measuring their worth by the words of St. Thomas Aquinas: “Do not consider the one who speaks, but whatever good you hear from him, confide it to your memory.” (from The Sixteen Ways to Acquire the Treasure of Knowledge by St. Thomas). Happy reading!

I wasn’t influenced, I made my choices.

Dom Samuel Stehman (1912-1970)
Jewish convert, Benedictine monk, author of “Ce Dieu que j’ignorais”
(This God I didn’t Know)

“It is the heroes and saints who form the soul of a people, and we come from a race of the saints: Saint Louis, Saint Clotilde, Saint Bernard, Saint Joan of Arc.
May they help us not to fall short of their example. They have gone before us in politics and in war, living in a family and under every earthly circumstance… Everywhere they went, they left a mark of charity, so that God might dwell there in friendship and so that, in turn, all people might dwell there with God… They ensured that every place in our human life would be pleasing to God by marking it with the sign of the Cross and the Hail Mary.
The saints of our people have walked our roads and prayed in our churches; we follow in their footsteps to gather and sow in the furrow they have plowed for all those who will cross our path and for those who will follow us.”
