At times indulgent, at times severe

“Walk as children of the light”
(Ephesians 5:8)

Parents, leaders, and educators, we have a mission, a duty to lead children's souls toward the Light which will be their guide and their happiness. In order to illuminate the way that lies before each one of us, once a week we invite you to discover some of the words of certain wisemen and witnesses, measuring their worth by the words of St. Thomas Aquinas: “Do not consider the one who speaks, but whatever good you hear from him, confide it to your memory.” (from The Sixteen Ways to Acquire the Treasure of Knowledge by St. Thomas). Happy reading!

“Nothing by force, for God constrains no person. It is necessary to teach a child to will something, and, in order to do that, it is necessary to bind his will with the laws of duty, all the while supporting and encouraging his efforts.”

“Believe me, goodness will obtain more for you than sharp and severe reprimands, wherever those reprimands are found not to be absolutely indispensable – and they are rarely indispensable, and they are certainly not for everyone. It is charity that arranges everything for God’s honor and for the advantage of souls; it is charity that will teach you discretion and discernment; it is from charity alone that we can learn when to be indulgent and when to be severe, according to the circumstances.”
