May they be rich!

“Walk as children of the light”
(Ephesians 5:8)

Parents, leaders, and educators, we have a mission, a duty to lead children's souls toward the Light which will be their guide and their happiness. In order to illuminate the way that lies before each one of us, once a week we invite you to discover some of the words of certain wisemen and witnesses, measuring their worth by the words of St. Thomas Aquinas: “Do not consider the one who speaks, but whatever good you hear from him, confide it to your memory.” (from The Sixteen Ways to Acquire the Treasure of Knowledge by St. Thomas). Happy reading!

“In the world of hypocrisy in which we live, words end up no longer having any meaning: that which is base we call grandeur, what is cowardice courage, what is defeat victory, what is slavery liberty.”
“In the face of all these lies, remain upright, honest, and pure! Whatever your place in life, uphold the honor of Catholicism.”

Father BERTO (1900- 1968)
Priest of the diocese of Vannes, Dominican Tertiary, founder of the Institute of the Dominicans of the Holy Ghost

“Many fathers will put forth every effort to do everything possible to procure for their son a beautiful horse, a magnificent house, a rich estate; but they place absolutely no importance on whether or not his soul is virtuous and his will pious. This is what turns the world upside down: we neglect our children. We are solicitous for their fortunes yet despise their souls, thus permitting conduct that is at the height of folly. A considerable fortune, even an opulent one, will be entirely lost and will disappear if the man to whom it is given is not trustworthy. In fact the wealth will be the cause of grave injury to its owner. On the other hand, a man whose soul is generous and full of wisdom, should he have but the bare necessities for himself, can be entrusted with the goods of others. What we must aim for is not to make our children rich in silver or gold or in other such assets. Rather, we must act in such a way that above all else, they be rich in piety, in wisdom, in the treasures of virtue and ensure that they should need little, that they be not fascinated by the goods of this world and thoughtless desires.”

Saint JEAN CHRYSOSTOME (c.344 – 407)
Archbishop of Constantinople, Father of the Church
